It was in 1990 that Phillips became an actor and portrayed the Huron native elder named “Sachem” in The Last Of The Mohicans staring Daniel Day-Lewis.
He also appeared in many other movies and has become quite popular in Quebec. Phillips was also depicted on the Two Row Wampum Belt poster that came out several years ago.
Phillips had led a full life, being an ironworker until 1979. Once he retired from ironwork he became an alcohol and drug counselor until 1990. His children remember him saying that it felt like he had his hands on every building and bridge in New York.
